The vision for this project was conceived under the leadership of Rotary District 5870.
The intent of the project is to provide funding for the college education of children of soldiers killed in the war on terror. With the help of Congressman John Carter, we have identified 15 children who lost a parent, killed in the line of duty.
These soldiers were all from Ft. Hood, and their families still reside in that area. Our goal, under Children of Fallen Soldiers, is to provide each child with a $25,000 college fund when they turn 18. The children range in age from 2 to 23.
The Round Rock Community Foundation has agreed to receive the funds, and house them in an investment program until the children are of age. The children currently identified range in age from 2 to 23.
Assuming we are successful in fulfilling the goal for these 15 children, the Ft. Hood Gold Star Families liaison can assist us in identifying additional children.
Initial launch of the campaign begins on August 4. A series of events have been identified to bring awareness and support to the campaign.
Congressman Carter’s office is helping us enlist all Congressmen whose districts fall within our District 5870.
